"Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few."
--Winston Churchill
"Never have I seen so many drink so much in such little time."--Astonished bar keeper, Herrmann Murr
Big news from Germany on some important cross-cultural aspects of the World Cup. Apparently, the English are drinking Germany dry. Herrmann Murr, mind you, is a GERMAN bar keeper. The guy works in the land of Oktoberfest!
Some vital statistics:
In Nuremberg, organisers revealed 70,000 England fans who flooded the city drank 1.2 MILLION pints of beer - an average of 17 pints each.
and
Stuttgart bar chiefs said an extra 900,000 pints were sunk last weekend where 60,000 fans partied before and after our 1-0 win over Ecuador. [That's 15 pints per Englishman--EXTRA!]
These fans' grandparents were the "few" to whom so much was owed some 60 years ago, for their fight against Germany, according to Sir Winston. Looks like the grandkids are collecting on the debt, in liquid form. Although, my guess is that it's the German barkeepers and brewers who are really the ones doing the collecting!
The English in Germany seem to be living out a famous American's theology:
"Beer is living proof the God loves us and wants us to be happy."--Benjamin Franklin
Gambrinus Maximus,
Thomas More
Only 17 pints each? The lads were obviously taking it easy, making sure they were in tip-top condition for the games.....

Come on, it was only Ecuador! You'd think they'd have cleared the 20 pint mark easily.
