Sorry all, I'm a little late on the wrap up from last week. Here it is:
World News:
The Mexico election was tight. The Conservatives looks to have won the presidency, but it was very close--with recounts and fraud allegations. The challenger would have been part of the Castro-Chavez axis, so the current results are a plus for the U.S.
North Korea continues to be a problem with their missles, which they test launced on the 4th of July--how subtle.
Domestic News:
The big Supreme Court Hamdan case had fall out and some interesting thoughts were offered on the case.
The Senate confirmed people have right to be nuts by dishonoring the flag, no amendment to the Constitution.
The New York High Court ruled against gay marriage. So did Georgia's. Cases are pending in New Jersey and Washington.
Being the week with the 4th of July, some interesting thoughts on America's birthday and Washington were offered.
The Space Shuttle had a protective-foam problem that threatened the launch but it made it anyhow.
Sports:
Beckham resigned as Captain of England's soccer team, which was eliminated from the World Cup.
The final was Sunday, with Italy taking home the cup over France. It was not without controversy involving the tournament's top player--Zidane.
And, there is a new hot dog eating record!

After Hamdan, it appears that nonuniformed combatants who are not sponsored by any particular country and not signatories to the Geneva Convention are, stunningly, protected by the Geneva convention. Today, the administration announced that enemy combatants will in fact be accorded the protections of the GC. Our ruthless enemies are now to be treated better than American citizens in jail. I see little chance of winning the GWOT when our friends at the Two Times are giving away our secrets and at the same time we are forced to coddle our enemies.

John,
I think it is amazing that in a mere 5 years, we can become this complacent and feel overly safe.
The Bush hatred is blinding some of our fellow citizens--notably at the Timeses--to the point that a political victory is more important than victories over our true enemies.
Very frustrating.
